I get a lot of questions about my schooling choices. Will I homeschool? State school? Private school? To tell the truth I don’t find much comfort in any of those options. Can we create a 4th option? A kind school! A place where children can come as they are. A place where small groups of children can come together in a safe space. A place where the educator is not only highly educated, but also highly nurturing. A place that values learning as a journey, with no need to test each stage. A place that offers part time learning options. A place that values mothers as the child’s first teacher, but also allows them time work on their own passions. A place where children can excel in their natural talents and passion. A place that focuses on raising a regulated and confident child, rather than compliant. A place that isn’t confined to four walls and a risk-averse playground. What else would you add to a Kind School?

In case you missed our stories, the Grimm’s New Items for 2020 shipment has arrived. We were assigned such a small quantity that I wasn’t able to give you a set restock date and time. It would have blown up the website and oversold in true Grimms Restock style! To avoid this I’ve slowly been adding the new pieces online over the past 24 hours, there will be more coming tonight and tomorrow also ❤️ it truly will be down to luck. “One Year = 365 Opportunities”
I am one of those people that photograph everything (my iCloud has over 80k+ photos on it 🤪) I just love looking back and seeing how much growth has occurred. I capture it all; the wins, the losses, the triumphs, the days I lock myself in a cupboard and cry 😅. Then every time I am feeling flat or stuck I look back through all of the memories. It’s so hard to remember all of the small changes in your day-to-day life, but when you look back a year ago, all of those small changes equate to some massive shifts.
I felt really compelled to share this with you as I scrolled through my photos from the last 12 months. One year ago I was a living an entire different life to the one I’m living today 💌
12 months ago I had just consciously uncoupled with my partner (we worked things out after 6 months but I didn’t know that at the time). I was living alone as a single mum with no financial security, over $20k in debt, hardly any friends and hating my business. I was borrowing money from my mum to pay my rent and feed the girls, I was selling off all of my stock so that I could close Growing Kind, my dog had just died, someone close to me was in the middle of a cancer scare, topped with a few other problems and I felt pretty alone, ashamed and lost. I felt like life was happening TO me, instead of FOR me. I felt like the most unlucky person ever. I was so run down that my body was manifesting all sorts of infections and illnesses! At the time I didn’t know it, but all of those things HAD to happen. They were all very important pieces to my journey. I can acknowledge that even at my lowest, my life was still one of privilege. My worst would be someone else’s DREAM. I still had my girls, clean water and a roof over my head. Everyday I had to work hard to unlearn, relearn and love myself more. Instead of focusing on the hurt and continuing to struggle, I chose to focus on the lessons and continued to grow. I had to learn that my income had nothing to do with my worth. My relationship struggles were a projection of how I felt about myself. My body was a reflection of my mind and I NEVER lost sight of the life I knew I deserved. Today=opportunity

When we consider the staple ingredients of any Early Years setting our thoughts would consider playdough as a firm favourite. 🟡
Play dough is a great transitional activity allowing children to engage in a sensory experience & bringing a touch of calm into any child’s day. 🌿
If ever we had a new child starting at our settings, play dough would be the activity of choice. Mindfully adding lavender cuttings to help soothe & bring that lush sensory experience, an aroma that gently eases tension & helps to restore moments security & calm. 🌿
But what happens now ? 🙁
As we look to reopen our doors, a time to re-settle a mass collection of individual children who are perhaps nervous, unsettled upset & scared. ☹️ Familiarity is key. 🗝
Hygiene is PARAMOUNT !
How can we provide familiarity when so much has changed ? When as adults we struggle with the enormity of our role & responsibility to keep children safe. 🙈
So much has changed & a viral tsunami came along & mixed all our thinking into splinters of debri & mismatched ideas 😨
Early Years educators you are amazing.
At this time of unrest draw on your strength, current skills and knowledge, draw on those foundations already in place.
The policies, procedures & infection control you know so well.
Draw on your love, kindness & heart centred approach.💛 To understand & acknowledge WHY our role is imperative.
To the well being of every child who walks through our doors! 💛
To bring pockets of calm in the lives of our children & staff who may have experienced trauma, upset, grief or depression. 💛
But HOW ? It’s impossible, some may say ? 😣😬😥
Guidance is vague. Open to interpretation & much social media opinions are noisy, negative & down right scary. So many of us feel ourselves lost & confused. 😱
It’s ok, not to feel ok.
You are amazing Early Years but this is going to take a clear mind to make informed decisions

These concepts can be explored through play from around 4 years +

We haven’t had a break since this time last year and it’s been one heck of a year 🤪 This will be our last little refresher and time to organise stuff before the Christmas rush 🥰
