About Riley Callie Resources (the maker):

Riley Callie Resources was founded with the goal of introducing young children to a fun and engaging way of learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) that incorporates Indigenous thinking and contexts. The company believes that STEM provides an ideal platform for educators to introduce children to the rich depth of knowledge and unique perspectives that Indigenous Australia has to offer.

The company is also passionate about providing educators with authentic Indigenous resources that make it easy to bring Indigenous perspectives into their classrooms. They want to see the rich depth of knowledge held by Indigenous Australia shared with all children and youth in Australia.

One of the challenges educators face is finding ways to celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in their learning environments in culturally respectful ways. To address this, the company has curated a huge collection of authentic Indigenous resources, where educators and teachers can feel confident in what they are buying. The founder, Debbie Hoger, a Dunghutti woman with an Anthropology background, and a Mum of two young children, feels that there is a great need to ensure that Indigenous culture is taught and learnt about throughout a child’s education, but especially in the early years.

Riley Callie Resources’ vision is for schools across the country to engage with community, learn about their local First Nations culture, and bring these perspectives back into their classrooms through the inclusion of authentic resources that celebrate and showcase Indigenous Australia. They want to see schools sustain the focus on Indigenous Australia throughout the year through activities and excursions, and new books and activities that engage across a range of diverse topics.

The company is also committed to supporting Indigenous businesses in its supply chain, and avoiding cultural appropriation by ensuring that resources are Indigenous-made or created in partnership or under the guidance of Indigenous people.
